On 26 and 27 September, Lisbon will host the 2nd edition of the Dias da Idade Média, an initiative dedicated to promoting medieval history, culture and heritage.

Over two days, the São Jorge Castle will host a diverse programme of activities for audiences of all ages, directly inspired by this period of history. Workshops, guided tours and talks with specialists, medieval music concerts, historical reenactments and demonstrations, children’s workshops, and many other activities invite the public to discover the richness of the Middle Ages in an engaging and participatory way.

The Institute for Medieval Studies (NOVA FCSH), EGEAC / São Jorge Castle and Lisbon City Council (GEO and CAL) have joined forces to promote this initiative, which aims to bring the public closer to medieval history and heritage. Alongside its recreational component, the programme has a strong educational dimension, involving several specialists with the aim of helping to challenge preconceived ideas about the Middle Ages, particularly in the context of Lisbon’s history.

Open to everyone — from history enthusiasts to families looking for a distinctive cultural experience — the Dias da Idade Média offer an immersive journey into the medieval world through an accessible, rigorous and engaging approach.

The workshops, talks and guided tours require prior registration when purchasing the ticket.

Activities taking place outside São Jorge Castle are free of charge, but require prior registration via email at centro.arqueologia@cm-lisboa.pt
