International Colloquium “A Nova Lisboa Medieval”
Biblioteca Palácio Galveias, Sala Polivalente, Lisbon
23.09.2024 - 25.09.2024
The “A Nova Lisboa Medieval” International Colloquium, now in its sixth edition, is organized by the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM) of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon and will take place at Biblioteca Palácio Galveias, Sala Polivalente, between September 23rd and 25th, 2024.
Exploring Medieval Lisbon is a journey into the ways of occupying, transforming, and organizing space. It’s a deep dive into the urban fabric, the composition of buildings, and the models of social organization. This exploration uncovers the powers and their intervention mechanisms in space and individuals. It’s a study of the cultural interpretations of space and men, and the way in which the city conditioned these interpretations. In essence, understanding Medieval Lisbon is about comprehending the complex relationship between the people and spaces of the city over a vast chronology that spans from Late Antiquity to the dawn of Modernity.
