In order to fill an important gap in the curricular plan of medieval studies at FCSH, the IEM presents the Curricular Unit (CU): A peregrinação na Idade Média: caminhos, santuários, relíquias e poderes (Pilgrimage in the Middle Ages: routes, shrines, relics and powers).

With a topic of relevant relevance, aligned with basic topics of the Institute of Medieval Studies, this UC represents an innovation in the teaching offer of FCSH, whose strategic mission is based on high quality scientific research, and an effective transfer of societal knowledge.

The UC’s interdisciplinary dimension is also an important feature, which is reflected in its association with disciplines such as History of Art, Literature, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology and Ethnography.

It also constitutes a valuable complement to the existing UC’s: Systems of Powers in the Middle Ages; Society and Culture in the Middle Ages; Mental Categories: Practices and Representations in the Middle Ages; History of the Medieval City; Territories, Cities and Landscapes in the Middle Ages.

Taking place in the 1st Semester of the academic year 2023 – 2024, this UC is available to students of all 2nd Cycle (Masters) courses, with a credit of 10 ECTS. The workload is 3 (three) hours in a single weekly session.
