On the 1st of June, at 4:00 pm, the IEM conference will take place, with the communication “Fortificación y militarización social. Arqueología de las micropoliticas altomedievales (siglos VIII-X)“, presented by Professor Juan Quirós Castillo.

Biographical note:
Professor of Archeology at the Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archeology at the Universidad del País Vasco, at the Faculty of Letters. Graduated (1991) and PhD (1998) in History from the Universidad de Oviedo, he graduated in Archeology with a special focus on his stay in Italy between 1991 and 2000. He was a pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Sassari (1994-1995) and at the Spanish School of History and Archeology of Rome at the CSIC (1995-1997). Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Siena (1998-2000), contract professor at the University of Pisa (1999-2000) and since 2000 professor at the University of the Basque Country. He directed several funded research projects and also doctoral theses. He also directs the editorial series “Documents of Medieval Archaeology”. He is also an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Archeology, University College London and, in 2018, he was also a Visitor at All Souls College, University of Oxford.
