Taught by Professors  Tomás Cordero Ruiz and Gabriel Mazoni Venturini de Souza, the NOVA FCSH summer school course, “Marcas da Islamização no território Português da arqueologia” (25h), will take place from July 22nd to August 1st, at the following times:

  • Monday to Thursday from 10am to 1pm
  • August 1st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Course objectives:

  • Understand the sequence of historical events related to the Islamic presence in current Portuguese territory, between the 8th and 13th centuries;
  • Understand some key concepts for the period under study, such as “Islamization”, “community”, “acculturation” or “worldview”;
  • Know the main distinctive elements that characterized cities and the rural world under Islamic political and cultural influence;
  • Know the main materials related to the Islamic period in Portugal.
