Taking place between the 3rd and 4th of June, the Workshop Christians in al-Andalus. Urban and Rural Communities is an event organized by Tomás Cordero (IEM NOVA FCSH) and María Ángeles Utrero Agudo (EEA, CSIC). It will take place at Colégio Almada Negreiros, Lisbon, in Auditorium 102 (day 3) and room 219 (day 4).Entry is free
This workshop focuses on the critical review and discussion of the historiographical representation of the Christian community in al-Andalus. Traditional historiography has partially approached this topic, often deviating from what material and written sources suggest about this critical sector of Andalusian society.
However, recent investigations have begun to challenge these classic accounts, offering new approaches and contemporary methodologies that have greatly enriched our understanding of the subject.
Throughout this workshop, we will discuss the most innovative investigations that have provided new interpretations about the life and role of the Christian community in al-Andalus, creating a discussion forum where participants can collectively analyze the impact of these advances on our historical understanding.
Furthermore, we intend to explore new angles and perspectives that may arise for a deeper analysis of the topic and, specifically, in the most recent contributions to the study of Mozarabic communities in the Iberian Peninsula. The purpose is to identify other angles and analytical approaches that allow us to outline future lines of investigation in this field.
