The Curricular Unit (CU) Provisioning Portuguese Medieval Towns seeks, first and foremost, to expand and enrich the teaching offering already offered by IEM about the city and, above all, the medieval economy.

The main objectives of this CU are:

  • Incorporate, into the teaching offer, the most recent research carried out within the scope of both individual and team projects by the responsible teachers;
  • Offer students their own space to expand their knowledge of the main authors, sources, methodologies, issues and themes linked to medieval economics;
  • Strengthen skills for pursuing medieval studies in third cycle courses

The expansion of cities, rise in tourism, and growth of creative industries highlight the importance for political leaders and professionals to comprehend the significance of medieval urban heritage and its impact on present-day cities. This is a unique feature of this CU, as it remains up-to-date and pertinent.

In the 2nd Semester of the academic year 2023 – 2024, this CU is available to FCSH students of all 2nd Cycle courses (Master’s), with an accreditation of 10 ECTS. The workload is 3 (three) hours in a single weekly session.
