The IX Encontro Internacional sobre Ordens Militares (IX International Meeting on Military Orders) will take place between the 25th and 29th of October in Palmela, with sessions at the Cine-Teatro S. João and the Municipal Library of Palmela.

Organized by the Office of Studies on the Order of Santiago (GEsOS) – Municipality of Palmela, and the Institute of Medieval Studies, the meeting was structured around several themes and will feature a round table dedicated to the “Archives of Military Orders: a transnational look».

One of the main objectives of the meeting’s Scientific Committee was its openness to new approaches and themes, without these compromising the objectives of providing discussion and periodic assessments of research surrounding the Military Orders.

There will also be a study visit to the original hospital motherhouse of Leça do Balio, which houses the tomb and epitaph plaque of Prior Estevão Vasques Pimentel.
