The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife (Escuela de la Alhambra), the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía and the Institute of Medieval Studies, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University (IEM-NOVA FCSH) are organising the “International Seminar: al-Muwahhidūn. El despertar del Califato Almohade” between 12th and 15th March 2018.

This initiative, which will take place in Granada, at the Palacio de Carlos V, in the Conjunto Monumental de la Alhambra y el Generalife, aims to convey the understanding and disseminate the history and culture developed by the Almohad Caliphate. As was the practice at previous meetings, this seminar adopts an interdisciplinary approach, which involves various study and analysis methodologies. Based on research perspectives from the fields of History, Archaeology, Literature, Art History, Architecture, Philosophy and Heritage Conservation, this approaches four main themes: “Genesis, Revolution and Evolution of the Almohad Caliphate”, “The Almohad Caliphate: Administrative, Economic, Legal and Political Organisation”, “The Arts during the Almohad Caliphate” and “The City and Material Culture in the Almohad Period: Analysis and Conservation”.
