The final session in the second cycle of “Manuscritos de Alcobaça II – materialidades, temas e problemas” (Manuscripts of Alcobaça – materialities, topics and problems) Conferences takes place on the 29th September and features a conference by Aires Augusto Nascimento, Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Letters, the University of Lisbon (FL-UL), who is also presenting his new book: O Scriptorium de Alcobaça (Monastic Studies Collection of Alcobaça, no. 4).

Throughout our scientific career, we have developed several themes in the field of philology. Among these translation features in various facets, from practice to accompanying the edition of the text, with its version of the vernacular, the history of translation in the medieval period and defining the statute of translators. Specifically, we have dedicated several essays to the subject of translation, worked on over different periods in time:

We now seek to address the problem of translation in the scriptorium of Alcobaça and overcome uncertainties that direct consultation of the manuscripts has attempted to overcome. As they are related to the subject in question, we are pleased to mention two major Translation Prizes that were awarded to our translation work: Thomas More, Utopia, edição crítica, tradução e comentário, Lisbon, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, 2006 – Translation Prize by União Latina / FCT, 2007, and Translation Prize of the Portuguese PEN Club: 2007. Editions of other texts, at the same level of Translation, received Honourable Mentions in for the Grand Translation Prize awarded by União Latina / FCT.
