The Institute of Medieval Studies (NOVA FCSH) stages the Lecture Series “Viver, ler e rezar no Mosteiro de Lorvão (séculos XIII a XVI)” (Living, reading and praying in the Lorvão Abbey (13th to 16th centuries)), integrated into the project Books, Rituals and Space in a Cistercian Nunnery. Living, Praying and Reading in Lorvão, 13th-16th centuries (ref. PTDC/ART-HIS/0739/2020), financed by national funding through the FCT – the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.

This cycle aims to stimulate and renew studies on the Lorvão Abbey, following the arrival of Cistercian nuns in 1211, across various different aspects, opening up spaces for discussion around several themes (the political and religious contexts around the entry of nuns in Lorvão, memory and archives, spaces and liturgy, institutions and powers, images and representations) and promoting comparative perspectives with other Peninsular monastic communities.

The monthly sessions are held by Zoom and open to all those interested parties.

The conference entitled “As visitações ao Mosteiro de Lorvão: espaço e liturgia (séculos XV-XVI)” (Visitors to the Lorvão Abbey: space and liturgy (15th-16th centuries)) will be given by Professors Luís Miguel Rêpas and Catarina Fernandes Barreira and takes place via Zoom, at 4.30pm on 15 November 2022.
