Privacy policy
1. Scope
This privacy notice applies to the processing of personal data of users of the website of the Institute of Medieval Studies ("IEM") of NOVA FCSH.
2. Who we are
IEM is a research unit based at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University and funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
IEM is responsible for processing the personal data of the website's users in accordance with the GDPR.
3. Collection and Processing of Personal Data
IEM collects personal data whenever the user subscribes to the IEM newsletter on its website, via its online form. Your browsing through the IEM website may also be monitored for statistical purposes.
To respect the principle of minimization, the categories of personal data that are subject to processing by IEM for the purposes referred to in this Policy are as follows:
- E-mail;
- IP address;
- Type of browser used;
- Domain;
- Time/time of access to the website;
- Content viewed.
4. Use and Purposes of the Personal Data Collected
The processing of the data identified above allows IEM to:
- Guarantee the technical operation of its website and the security of its domain and information systems;
- Improve and personalize the communication and services offered on its website;
- Ensure that the newsletter is subscribed to and sent.
5. Lawfulness of Personal Data Processing
Personal data is collected that is strictly necessary to ensure the pursuit of IEM's legitimate interest in guaranteeing the technical operation of its website and the security of its domain and information systems.
The collection of personal data for newsletter subscription is based on the consent of the data subject. This consent can be given by express, clear, and free expression of will, when voluntarily submitting personal data to IEM in the context of filling in the form available on the website.
6. Retention of Personal Data
IEM will retain the user's personal data for as long as the newsletter subscription is active, i.e. for as long as the user wishes.
The user always has the option of unsubscribing at any time. Your personal data will then be deleted without undue delay.
7. Transfer of Personal Data
IEM shares personal data with Mailchimp, the marketing automation platform on which the newsletter is disseminated, based in the United States of America. This transfer of data outside the European Economic Area ("EEA") is subject to Standard Data Protection Clauses adopted by the Commission, providing appropriate safeguards, as set out in Article 46 of the GDPR.
8. Security of Personal Data
IEM takes all necessary and legally required precautions to ensure the protection of information collected from its users through the IEM website. Since it is hosted by the NOVA FCSH server, all precautions are taken with the support of the IT Division.
9. Data Subject Rights
The holder of personal data may, at any time, exercise their rights, namely, to request additional information regarding the processing of their data, to rectify their data, as well as, within certain limits, to erase their data, revoke the consent given or oppose the processing of their data, among others, through the email address iemc@fcsh.unl.pt or by letter to the postal address IEM - Instituto de Estudos Medievais NOVA FCSH, Av. de Berna 26 C 1069-061 Lisbon. The holder of personal data should bear in mind that in certain cases (for example, due to legal requirements) their request may not be fulfilled. In any case, they will be informed of the measures taken in this regard within one month of the request being made.
