The IEM and the FALCO project join forces with Falcões no Oeste and EGEAC / Castelo de São Jorge to promote the science outreach activity “Birds of Prey at the Castle” on the first Sunday of each month until October 2025 (except July and August). Open to the public of all ages, the event takes place from 10 AM to 5 PM and features displays of some of the birds of prey most commonly used in the Portuguese medieval court, historical reenactments of aspects of the falconer’s craft, and free-flight demonstrations.

Bridging scientific research in Medieval Studies with the practical knowledge of handling and training these magnificent animals, we will bring to life an activity deeply rooted in medieval society.
