The “Castelo de Vide in the Middle Ages” leaflet was presented last Saturday, April 27th. This material is designed for Castelo de Vide residents and everyone who visits this Alentejo village. This original tourist and pedagogical brochure, coordinated by Medieval – the IEM brand for knowledge transfer – in collaboration with the Municipality of Castelo de Vide – invites us to discover its medieval past.
The leaflet stands as a testament to the collaborative work of the IEM researchers and the Anyforms Design graphic design team. Their expertise and dedication have transformed the latest research findings from documentary sources, civil and military architecture, and archaeological materials into a visually captivating language. The leaflet, designed for diverse audiences, meticulously selects significant spaces, moments, and characters from the local medieval period, offering a glimpse into the daily life of that era through its stunning illustrations.
This leaflet is the first promotional material presented by Medieval, which also participated on Sunday as part of the Raiya Viva project, with an activity that allowed children to come into contact with the medieval world through the construction of a keep to learn what it was for, how it was used and what its main characteristics were.
The conceptualization and texts were the responsibility of IEM researchers Gonçalo Melo da Silva, Adelaide Costa, Fábian Cuesta-Gómez, and Sara Prata, with scientific consultancy from António Oliveira, Carla Alferes Pinto, João Nisa, and Luísa Trindade.
The written sources for the timeline were collected and analyzed within the scope of the FRONTOWNS project (http://doi.org/10.54499/PTDC/HAR-HIS/3024/2020). The archaeological collection represented is located in the Archeology of C. M. de Castelo de Vide and comes from archaeological excavations carried out in the town’s Historic Center between the 1980s and 2000s.
