The book “Os Livros de Receita e Despesa de Loulé (1375-1518)” (Loulé Revenue and Expense Books (1375-1518“, coordinated by IEM researcher Gonçalo Melo da Silva, was covered in the latest issue of the Revista História (History Magazine) – Jornal de Notícias (News Newspaper), dedicated to popular medieval uprisings. The work, published at the beginning of last month, presents both a framework study and the transcriptions of the Loulé council revenue and expenditure books. These records were drawn up between 1375 and 1518, but make reference to earlier years, such as 1348 (the year the Black Death arrived in Portugal). This is the only Portuguese series that preserves account books from the 14th century and the oldest that have survived to the present day.
