Available in open access: “Manuscritos de Alcobaça. Cultura, identidade e diversidade na unanimidade cisterciense”
The publication of “Manuscritos de Alcobaça. Cultura, identidade e diversidade na unanimidade cisterciense” (Manuscripts of Alcobaça. culture, identity and diversity in the Cistercian unanimity“), coordinated by Catarina Fernandes Barreira, results from a partnership between the Institute of Medieval Studies, the Cistercian Horizons Project (PTDC/ART-HIS/29522/2017) and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage/Monastery of Alcobaça.
The book brings together a set of texts produced by three cycles of conferences entitled “Manuscripts of Alcobaça”, which took place at the Monastery of Alcobaça between 2017 and 2019, and which spanned a total of 28 events. The main underlying aim of this initiative was to disseminate and raise the public profile of the codices of Alcobaça, unique heritage that, while currently in the care of the National Library, belonged to the Alcobaça monastic community throughout centuries. This work represents an important contribution to the renewal of Cistercian Order studies on the Iberian Peninsula, thus providing the broader public with an up-to-date overview of the most recent research carried out on the basis of this extraordinary Cistercian community, which bequeathed us one of the largest still-preserved medieval libraries in Europe.
This book is available via open access on the PURE and RUN platforms.
