This interdisciplinary PhD in Medieval Studies is run according to an e-learning regime, which allows us to accept students from all over the world and make the training provision flexible according to different schedules and personal requirements. This is taught with Portuguese materials even though assessment can be made in the mother tongue of doctoral students. Constant and interactive supervision, integration into a plural, multidisciplinary and highly qualified team of teachers and researchers, as well as the scope to work in intensely collaborative approaches, closely connected with the activities and research carried out at the Institute of Medieval Studies, NOVA FCSH, represent only the beginning of the added values of this PhD program. Working with documentation available online or in the vicinity of where doctoral students live is another attractive aspect of this pedagogic service, which aims to enable researchers to combine the rigour and practice of interdisciplinarity in their doctoral theses. Therefore, interdisciplinary training is proposed to doctoral students, allowing them to learn how to work in Archaeology, History, History of Art, Literature, Musicology and even in Codicology and Palaeography, combining them with other more easily mastered branches of knowledge. A one-week intensive workshop (doctoral retreat) provides doctoral students with the chance to attend various specialist seminars, to establish closer contacts with documentation and tutors and to present their works and queries to a conference.
