Researchers from the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM) of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University are once again participating in European Researchers’ Night.

All over Europe the last Friday of September is dedicated to this celebration, which gathers researchers from different disciplines to share their research with other citizens of different ages.

The current edition takes the theme “Ciência na Cidade” (Science in the city). Based on this motto, and starting from a representation of Lisbon in the 16th century, a journey through medieval Lisbon is proposed to participants, seeking to identify the fundamental landmarks of a city that would largely disappear after the 1755 earthquake.

This activity, entitled “À descoberta da Lisboa medieval” (Discovering medieval Lisbon; organised by Carla Varela Fernandes, João Luís Inglês Fontes, Mário Farelo and Paulo Catarino Lopes) will allow you to understand the permanence of those medieval times but coupled with the profound changes that have marked the city’s history.

Do not miss out on this special night and, should you have the opportunity, visit the circuit between the National Museum of Natural History and Science and the Principe Real Garden, in Lisbon, from 6pm to midnight as we will be there together with other researchers to receive you and jointly celebrate this night with different ongoing activities.

Entrance is free.
