This event provides insights into the research tools, online and with free access, about the work of Fernão Lopes. The presentation takes us through the history, virtualities and practical features of the site at a time when it is integrating the set of digital research tools already made available by the IEM.

Work began on an ambitious project focused on Fernão Lopes in 2009. Coordinated by Amélia Hutchinson and, following her passing away, by Professor Teresa Amado, and culminated with the full publication of the Crónicas in English in 2021. The project results from the extensive collaboration of a diverse team, composed of experts in literary studies, translators, linguists, historians and computer scientists.

As a complement to the Crónicas edition, a website was designed by Amélia Hutchinson and developed at the University of Georgia to help readers browse the numerous references (onomastic, topographical and others) in the work of Fernão Lopes. This authentic database is, therefore, an essential tool for the contextualised reading and interpretation of this author.

On the verge of celebrating a decade of existence, the website now has a new address at the IEM / NOVA-FCSH, as well as a renewed vocation: to serve an educational portal to the cultural universe around one of the greatest authors of Portuguese Literature – and, simultaneously, one of the great “historians” in the Europe of his period…
