Opening of the Exhibition | “José Mattoso – Fazer a História, Repensar o Arquivo”

The Institute for Medieval Studies, in collaboration with Torre do Tombo and more than a dozen renowned institutions, including universities, local authorities and cultural entities, is proud to announce the opening of an innovative exhibition dedicated to the influential figure of José Mattoso. The opening will be on April 22nd, at 5 pm, at the National Archives – Torre do Tombo, Lisbon, Portugal, and the exhibition will run until June 17th.
The exhibition aims to celebrate José Mattoso’s profound impact on the understanding and practice of History in Portugal, along with his efforts to value and make accessible archival materials and documentary heritage. Visitors will explore some of the most critical aspects of Portugal’s medieval past, exploring the legacies left by José Mattoso and his work at Torre do Tombo.
The National Archives – Torre do Tombo hosts this exhibition, which pays tribute to Mattoso’s seminal contribution and invites the public to engage with the rich tapestry of Portugal’s medieval history.
