Tapado das Casas is an archaeological site located in the lands of Lafões, more specifically in the territory of the parish of Carvalhal de Vermilhas, municipality of Vouzela.

It is located in Serra do Caramulho, at around 950 m altitude, and was founded around 1,000 years ago. It is a village that was used seasonally during the summer when the pastures around the village were scarce and those on the mountain were cool and accessible.

Come and learn more about the history of this place, rural life in medieval times, and the people who populated the mountains. You can’t miss the amazing mountain air and the breathtaking views.

It is also an opportunity to learn a little more about the archaeologists’ fieldwork methods.

The visit is guided by a team of archaeologists and students from the Institute for Medieval Studies of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Municipality of Vouzela. The initiative is free and will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 pm. As the location is difficult to access, you can request more information via email: gab.turismo@cm-vouzela.pt

This activity is aimed at the general public and no prior registration is required.
