The II Medievalism and Neomedievalism Gathering Cycle, which will take place between March and June 2023, is organized within the scope of the seminar, under the same theme, which is part of the curricular offer of the Doctoral Program in Medieval Studies (E-learning) , coordinated by the Universidades Aberta and NOVA de Lisboa.
In its second edition, the cycle will have a set of four sessions in which some of the main approaches to the Middle Ages that can be identified in European cinematographic creation of the 20th and 21st centuries will be addressed. Four cinematographic projects will be highlighted: Francesco, giullare di Dio, by Roberto Rossellini (1950); the unfinished project on the Battle of Bouvines in which the French historian George Duby participated, inspired by his 1973 book Le Dimanche de Bouvines; Vou para Casa, by Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira (2001); and the animated film The Secret of Kells, by Irish director Tomm Moore (2009).
