As part of the 11th edition of the Leiria Medieval event, this year around the theme “1135. The foundation of the castle”, the Municipal Council of Leiria, in partnership with the Institute of Medieval Studies of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, as in the previous two years, is organizing a cycle of “Conversations” dedicated to the topic mentioned above.
With the scientific coordination of researcher Catarina Fernandes Barreira, these “Conversations” about History will take place on the 19th, 20th, and 21st of July 2024 at the Igreja da Misericórdia/Intercultural Dialogue Center of Leiria. They will feature a group of medievalists renowned among the speakers and moderators of each session.

“From the Castle to Paços Novos. Strong marks of Leiria in Portuguese medieval history”, by Professor Doctor João Gouveia Monteiro (CHSC FL University of Coimbra) moderated by Professor Doctor Miguel Martins (IEM FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa). - Sunday, July 21st, 3:00 pm:
“There were books in Portugal in the 19th century. XII? Authors and readers in the time of Afonso Henriques” by Professor Doctor José Meirinhos (IF FL University of Porto), moderated by Doctor Catarina Fernandes Barreira (IEM FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
