The Biblioteca Pública snt the Arquivo Regional de Ponta Delgada, in partnership with the Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM), Centro de História d’Aquém e d’Além-Mar (CHAM), o Instituto Cultural de Ponta Delgada (ICPDL), and the Delegação Açores da Associação Portuguesa de Bibliotecários, Arquivistas e Documentalistas (APBAD), , promotes on May 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Colloquium “Arquivos de Família: desafios atuais” and on May 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., it will hold the Training Course “Family Archives: working hypotheses”. These initiatives aim to bring to light the theme of the Family Archives, as well as alert holders, individuals, and public institutions with cultural responsibilities, for their importance and the need for their preservation, in a work that is to be done in proximity between individuals and public entities.

The Colloquium “Arquivos de Família: desafios atuais” will bring to São Miguel some of the national professionals who have most worked in the area of Family Archives, namely Maria de Lurdes Rosa, Filipa Lopes and Rita Sampaio da Nóvoa, from the Institute of Medieval Studies, as well as the international contribution of Andrew Flinn, from University College London, and Judit Gutierrez de Armas, from the Universidad de La Laguna. The Colloquium aims to present to the regional audience ongoing projects concerning Family Archives, to address results and methodologies, as well as to contribute to the problematization of this specific area.

The “Arquivos de Família: desafios atuais” training session is aimed at senior archival professionals and Family Archives holders/managers, and intends to address, equally, but in a more technical manner, methodologies and working hypotheses, in an attempt to share experiences and projects among archival professionals and holders.
