On 12 March 2019, Professor Chris Wickham will give a lecture and a postgraduate seminar to undergraduate and postgraduate students of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University (NOVA FCSH), respectively on “The Feudal Revolution” and on “A journey by a Flemish abbot to Rome in 1141.

The lecture and seminars have the following schedule and themes:

  • Tuition for undergraduate students (Archaeology, History and Art History)
    12 March, from 10am to 11.30am, in Auditorium 1 of Tower B.

Topic: “Rethinking the ‘feudal revolution’”.

  • Post-graduate seminar (Master’s and PhD students in Archaeology, History, History of Art)
    12 March, from 2pm to 4pm, in Room 1.05 of R&D Building.

Theme: “A Flemish abbot meets Innocent II, 1141”.

To this end, you must pre-read the account of this abbot’s journey to Rome, and bring this to class. The text is in Latin but it is emphasised that one does not need to know Latin to understand the seminar. The texts are made available by the teachers on Moodle, since the first week of March, or sent to those who need them by the IEM.
