Zoom session
The Institute of Medieval Studies (NOVA FCSH) is staging the “Ciclo de Conferências Viver, ler e rezar no Mosteiro de Lorvão (séculos XIII a XVI)” (Living, reading and praying in Lorvão Abbey (13th to 16th centuries)) Conference Cycle, integrated into the Books, Rituals and Space in a Cistercian Nunnery. Living, Praying and Reading in Lorvão, 13th-16th centuries project (ref. PTDC/ART-HIS/0739/2020), financed by national funding through the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology.
This cycle aims to stimulate and renew studies on Lorvão Abbey in the period following the arrival of Cistercian nuns in 1211 across various aspects to thereby open spaces for discussion and debate around several themes (the political and religious context of the nuns entering Lorvão, memory and archives, spaces and liturgy, institutions and powers, images and representations) and bringing about comparative perspectives with other Iberian Peninsula monastic communities.
The monthly sessions take place via Zoom and are open to all interested parties.
The next Conference, on 19th September 2022, entitled O padroado do Mosteiro de Lorvão nas paróquias urbanas de Coimbra: São Bartolomeu e São Pedro de Almedina (The Advowson of Lorvão Abbey in the urban parishes of Coimbra: São Bartolomeu and São Pedro de Almedina), is given by Profs. Maria Amélia Álvaro de Campos and Luís Miguel Rêpas (CHSC and IEM, respectively).
