The “3rd Workshop on Juridical Culture in Portugal – Dispute Settlement and Judicial Systems (9th-13th centuries): Procedure and Proof” aims to continue in the footsteps of the previous workshops, which have been conceived as opportunities for informal debate of topics which have seen some progress in Portugal in recent years, but whose specificities have been responsible for a certain isolation of both those who devote themselves to it and of the subject-matter itself, perceived too often by fellow historians as a micro-field reserved for specialists only.

This meeting aims to bring together researchers who will share and discuss the results of their study of particular realities and cases, the possibilities of various methodological approaches, the use of tools derived from other disciplines, different levels of personal experience and comparisons drawn from conflict solving and judicial systems in diverse parts of the Medieval World.

We therefore hope to encourage a fruitful dialogue which will promote future collaboration amongst researchers of the topic in Medieval Portugal and elsewhere, and to establish a basis for further meetings in which this perspective can be fruitfully developed.
