This session, held as part of the “Seminar Series “Arquivos & História: estado(s) da(s) arte(s)”(2016-17)”, unlike the others, will extend throughout the day to discuss community archives, community archives, and is divided into two parts:

The first part is made up of a series of talks headed by the presentation of independent community archives in the UK and the work being carried out by the British organisation Community Archives and Heritage Group. This will be followed by a presentation of the initiatives undertaken in the context of the Project to Safeguard the archives of cultural, recreational and sports associations developed by DGLAB and the respective collaborative strategy for the enhancement of these archives. A similar project will then be examined, focusing on the Memory of Avenidas Novas and the constitution, in partnership with local agents and institutions, of a repository of oral testimonies, documents and objects of those who lived in these Avenues. Finally, the first part will end with an incursion through the community radios, questioning whether they can serve (both intentionally and unintentionally) as an archive of memories that contribute to the formation and consolidation of communities. These conferences will have the participation of Andrew Flinn (University College London), Pedro Penteado (DGLAB), Luísa Seixas (IHC-FCSH/NOVA) and Sofia Diniz (IHC-FCSH/NOVA), Inês David (CRIA-FCSH/NOVA), and will be moderated by António Camões Gouveia.

The second part consists of an introductory workshop to the topoteca, a new way of sharing historical documents of private origin with the interested public. The objective of this workshop, led by Daniel Jeller (ICARUS), is to provide participants with the necessary tools not only to find information in the existing topotecs, but also to enrich the documents with different metadata which will allow locating them in time and space and adding context.
