The “Entail of the Month” initiative presents, in June, the manor house of Lobagueira, established in Encarnação by Rui de Figueiredo, Fazenda of D. João II and D. Manuel, and his wife, Maria Correia, in 1517. The closest ancestors to the founders came from the high royal officials: Rui de Figueiredo was the son of Henrique de Figueiredo, clerk of the Treasury of D. João II, and who, according to Garcia de Resende, was “a man that the king greatly esteemed”. Maria Correia was the daughter of Brás Afonso Correia, an official courtier of D. Manuel, before and after he ascended to the throne. During the first twenty years of the 17th century, Jorge de Figueiredo built a church dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Encarnação on his land in Lobagueira. The morgado also used the position of “very Illustrious nobleman of the main nobility and nobility of this Kingdom related to all the great ones” to reinforce his dominion over the place, obtaining the privilege of patronage of the same church. Throughout the 18th century, the Figueiredos contributed to the maintenance, works and beautification of the church of Encarnação da Lobagueira. Even after the abolition of the estates (1863) and the division of assets among the heirs, the church of Encarnação remained in the possession of the family who donated it, in the 20th century, to the Patriarchate of Lisbon, with the family having to say two masses. annuals: one for the living and another for the dead.
