Organised by the Institute of Medieval Studies, Nova University of Lisbon, and in collaboration with the Vinculum project, the document exhibition “Um arquivo, doze documentos” (“One archive, twelve documents”) arose from the work of inventorying an extensive family archive held by the BNP – the National Library of Portugal, as part of the doctoral thesis in History, specialising in Historical Archivistics, defended by Alice Borges Gago in 2019, which was hosted by the Institute of Medieval Studies.

Over the course of a year, the Almada and Lencastre Bastos archive (14th-20th centuries), one of the largest family collections deposited in the National Library of Portugal, will be placed in the spotlight, with the exhibition of one document per month. The aim is to disseminate the collection, which contains documents of great historical and archival value and hitherto virtually unknown.

Simultaneously, there is the launch of the catalogue of the exhibition selected documents, following support from the IEM and the BNP.
