A special issue celebrating the life and work of Professor José Mattoso!
“Long live Medievalista! No more, no less. It was with these words that Professor José Mattoso ended a message he addressed to the journal’s editors in November 2022. He congratulated them on the quality of issue 32, the last one published in July of that year, and on the contributions that the IEM journal was making to the renewal of research into the medieval period. This was nothing new – in previous years, he had already made complimentary comments about the direction of the journal and the institute – but it was certainly the first time he had expressed himself with such enthusiasm, an attitude that was rare in someone who cultivated restraint and moderation. Perhaps there were good reasons for this, from the most recent to the oldest.”
