IEM researcher presents a book on heraldry and football
Livraria Barata / FNAC da Avenida de Roma, Lisboa
The Portuguese Football Federation publishes, through its associated publisher Cultura / Infinito Particular, the book Emblemas em Campo – Heráldica dos football clubs in Portugal (First Division).
The work, written by Miguel Metelo de Seixas, researcher at IEM – NOVA FCSH, is divided into two parts.
The first explains to what extent football, a mass phenomenon that emerged in the second half of the 19th century, found its privileged form of visual communication in heraldry, a symbolic code of medieval origin. In the second part, the football clubs that formed part of the First Division from its creation to the present are listed, seeking to retrace the origin and explain the meaning of the colours and figures present in the equipment and the successive emblems that these associations adopted.
The book will be presented at Livraria Barata / FNAC on Avenida de Roma on October 29, 2024, at 6:30 pm. The presentation will be in charge of António de Araújo and Raquel Vaz-Pinto.
