As part of the Colloquium “Sob a égide de Fernão Lopes” which will take place on September 12th, at Torre does Tombo, Lisbon, one of the responsible researchers and principal curator of Portal Fernão Lopes, Amélia Hutchinson, wrote an opinion article in Diário de Notícias.
It focuses on the enormous relevance of this important figure in Portuguese historiography and sheds light on some of the reasons why this event is of enormous interest and relevance to the general public.
The event will present the first full translation of the works attributed to Fernão Lopes. This translation is significant because it sheds light on medieval women and portrays the lives of ordinary people of that time. Fernão Lopes’ narratives cover a comprehensive range of topics, including the Portuguese court, hunting, diplomacy, wars, plagues and economic aspects. His works also played a crucial role in shaping national identity during the rebellion of 1383-1385.
The colloquium promises to offer valuable information about the historical and literary significance of Fernão Lopes’ work.
