Miguel C. Fernandes is a Ph.D. student at the History Department of the University of Chicago. His interests include medieval European cultural and cognitive history, visual culture and materiality, media and technology, and monasticism. He completed his M.A. in Medieval History at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH) in July 2021. His award-winning master thesis is entitled “Finger-counting in two illuminated grammatical manuscripts (12th – 13th c.).” He has also received a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and Computation from the University of Lisbon (IST).
