The Institute of Medieval Studies (FCSH; Nova University, Lisbon) and the City Council of Castelo de Vide will host the X International Conference on the Middle Ages, which takes place from 2nd to 4th October 2025 under the theme: “Memory in medieval urban Europe”.

With a focus on Christian, Islamic, and Jewish Europe, researchers from various scientific disciplines (History, Archaeology, History of Art, Literature, among others) will present proposals for sessions and/or individual presentations on the following thematic panels:

1. The written memory of cities: charters, cartularies, administrative documentation, letters and chronicles
2. The stone memories of cities: buildings, tumuli, sculpture and epigraphy
3. Collective memory and individual memory
4. Urban memory in representations: cartography, drawing and painting
5. The producers of memory: notaries, clerks and illuminators
6. Places where memory is produced
7. Places where memory is preserved: urban archives
8. Urban chancelleries
9. Writing: formation and practices
10. The construction/destruction of written memory in the medieval period
11. The construction/destruction of the memory of medieval towns in the following centuries
12. The uses of memory by powers and agents
13. The uses of memory by elites
14. Between text and stone: the memories of Medieval Castelo de Vide

The Conference will comprise 4 plenary sessions featuring researchers invited by the organizing committee, along with separate thematic panels. Each panel will be made up of three paper presentations and will be 60 minutes long.
