Taught by Professors João Luís Fontes, Ana Cláudia Silveira, Ana Patrícia Alho, Gonçalo Miguel da Silva, Rodrigo Dias and R. Bruno Matos, the NOVA FCSH summer school course, “Water Heritage: Cross-views on resource management water works in the 14th-16th centuries” (25h), will take place between the 4th and 14th of September, at the following times:

  • September 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 14th, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
  • September 11th and 13th, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Course objectives:

  • Recognize the relevance of water resources management in shaping rural and urban landscapes in the transition from the Middle Ages to modernity;
  • Identify the leading urban equipment related to water supply and management;
  • Integrate water resources management with technical and economic development in the period considered;
  • Associate the use and management of water with the affirmation of social practices and representations;
  • Raise awareness about safeguarding historical and heritage testimonies associated with water management;
  • Master methodologies for selecting and analyzing medieval sources that contribute to deepening knowledge about this period and preparing teaching materials for school audiences.
