On July 1st, the next issue of Medievalista—the online journal of the IEM (Institute for Medieval Studies)—will be released. Alongside its regular sections dedicated to reviews, news, and research notes, this issue features a thematic dossier on ecclesiastical taxation, coordinated by Amandine Leroux, Ester Tello, and Mário Farelo. Covering a broad geography (Portugal, the remaining Iberian kingdoms, and the Italian Peninsula), it offers diverse analytical perspectives—from monastic worlds, dioceses, and parishes to the complex taxation systems of the Roman Curia and its benefice networks.
Additionally, the issue includes other articles: two stemming from the 2024 Colloquium on Luís Krus’s work, as well as contributions on varied topics such as medieval maritime literature, contemporary reinterpretations of medieval themes, and women’s labor in urban contexts.
This edition also marks Medievalista’s transition to a new platform: PRELO, which hosts journals and publications from NOVA FCSH. From now on, the journal will be fully accessible at:
