The Institute of Medieval Studies of the Faculty of School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University, Penacova Municipal Council and AGIC – the Portuguese Association of Tourism Interpreters and Guides are jointly running the course “O quotidiano monástico em Lorvão. Séculos XIII a XVI” (Monastic daily life in Lorvão. 13th to 16th Centuries) for guides-interpreters about monastic daily life in the Lorvão Abbey between the 13th and 16th centuries.

The main objective is to provide participants with the knowledge enabling them to interpret and contextualise daily life in the Lorvão Abbey, from 1211 onwards (the date on which the first female Portuguese Cistercian community was established here), its relationship with the territory and the powers that be and under whose protection it flourished during the Middle Ages. The program covers aspects related to architecture, liturgy and its performance and the books existing in Lorvão Abbey as well as the most important figures that marked the monastery, its heraldic expressions (which were clearly visible then and can still be admired today) and the experiences of this important conventual community. This training and study program, takes place in person at the Lorvão Abbey, draws on contributions from several researchers, experts in their fields, who will share their knowledge and experience with participants.
