The open virtual program “No tempo de D. Dinis” (In the Time of King Dinis), organised by IEM – NOVA FCSH in cooperation with the Monastery of Batalha, Batalha Teacher Training Centre and Estremadura Heritage Studies Centre, coordinated by Amélia Aguiar Andrade, João Luís Fontes, Joherem Ruivo and Miguel Metelo de Seixas, closes today. The course, accredited by CCPFC for teacher training and of relevance to the scientific and pedagogic dimensions of History and Portuguese teachers, also sought to cater for other publics, in particular interpreters-guides and other parties interested in Estremadura’s heritage, with a final total of around 200 trainees.

Between 13 March and 24 April, the course ran four sessions that counted on 18 lecturers not only from NOVA University but also the Universities of Coimbra, Oporto, Algarve, Aberta and Católica, as well as the Gabinete de Estudos Olissiponenses (Olisipponenses Studies Office). As a whole, they sought to convey the diversity of prisms through which it is possible to approach and understand one of the most fascinating reigns in Portuguese medieval history.

The “No tempo de D. Dinis” course was chosen for the launch, on April 17th, of the collection Scriptorium – Monastery of Batalha, another result of the collaboration between the Monastery of Batalha and the Institute of Medieval Studies and coordinated by the course organizers. This consists of small, concise volumes, lacking major critical content but supplemented by numerous images and a series of final bibliographic references, in a bilingual Portuguese-English edition, with the aim of disseminating the university research results to a broader audience. The collection opened with the volume “D. João I – O homem e o rei” (João I – The Man and the King), written by Maria Helena da Cruz Coelho, who made its public presentation on this occasion.
