Between September 30 and October 4, the Medieval Studies Week of Castelo de Vide took place, the result of a partnership between the Institute for Medieval Studies and the Municipality of Castelo de Vide, bringing together in this Alentejo town dozens of researchers devoted to urban spaces in medieval Europe.

This year’s edition was marked by the International Medieval Studies Conference, which celebrated its 10th consecutive year. The 2025 event focused on the theme Memory(ies) in Medieval Urban Europe.

The week began with the 9th edition of the Autumn School, a specialized training programme for master’s and doctoral students in medieval studies. As part of the Conference, Professor Hermínia Vilar (University of Évora) presented the book Urban Societies in Medieval Europe, resulting from the 2024 edition. The Opening Lecture, titled Written Memory in Small Towns in Late Medieval Portugal, was delivered by Professor Adelaide Millán da Costa (UAb, IEM – NOVA FCSH).

As part of these events, two study visits were also organized to the historic centre of Castelo de Vide, and the Week concluded with a visit to Amieira do Tejo (Nisa).
