The 59th International Congress of Medieval Studies occurred in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, between May 9th and 11th, 2024.

Organized by the Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University, the International Congress of Medieval Studies is an annual meeting that brings together thousands of scholars interested in Medieval Studies. The Congress encompasses the study of all aspects of the Middle Ages, extending to the end of antiquity and the beginning of the modern period, including – but not limited to – history, language, literature, linguistics, art, archaeology, religion, science, medicine, music, drama, philosophy, gender, sexuality, mysticism and technology, as well as medievalism.

In this edition, as has been customary, several IEM researchers participated:

The session was co-organized by Alicia Miguélez, who also contributed to the communication “Medieval Art, Cinema, and Francoism”.

  • Roundtable Bringing Medieval Chronicles to the Twenty-First Century

Round table co-organized and chaired by Amélia P. Hutchinson, with the participation of Tiago Viúla de Faria.

  • Iberian Chronicles in Global Context (1): Interrogating the Medieval in Medieval Chronicles Session
