João Pedro Tereso is an Assistant Researcher at the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM) of NOVA University Lisbon (UNL). He holds a degree in History, with a specialization in Archaeology, from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (2002), a Master’s degree in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation (2007), and a PhD in Biology (2012) from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He was a researcher at CIBIO-InBIO (2012–2025) and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra (2021 and 2025).

Specialized in Archaeobotany, particularly in the study of plant macroremains (wood, fruits, and seeds) recovered from archaeological sites, he has used these remains as a starting point for investigating landscape evolution and the history of agriculture, seeking to understand the relationship between major environmental, social, and economic dynamics from a diachronic perspective. In this context, he has studied more than one hundred archaeological sites and is the author of around 150 publications and over 200 presentations at international and national events.
