As part of IEM’s participation in the European Heritage Days, an activity will be carried out by historians, veterinarians, and biologists, at Tapada de Mafra. With the participation of Tiago Viúla de Faria, Sónia Pires, Maria Ribeiro, and Afonso Soares de Sousa, this is a partnership between the Institute of Medieval Studies at Universidade Nova, Falcões no Oeste and Tapada Nacional de Mafra.
Did you know that in the Middle Ages, some types of falcon were so prized that they were worth as much as a luxury car today? How did it appear in Portugal? How did you hunt? How were the birds kept? And by whom? Come and discover the reasons for the fascination of medieval people with falconry.
On this afternoon of contact with nature, visit Tapada Nacional Mafra and watch these beautiful animals fly, by the hands of 21st century falconers.
Participation is free but subject to registration and with a maximum capacity of 30 participants, via email info@falcoesnooeste.pt.
