Book of Hours from the second half of the 15th century, attributed to Master François, LA147 is said to have belonged to René II de Lorraine, who is represented kneeling before the Virgin and the Child in the illumination that opens the prayer Obsecro te. With our communication, we intend to pay homage to Professor François Avril by presenting the results of the study he carried out, which unveiled some of the mysteries that this manuscript contained.

This session takes place as part of the cycle of seminars «Tesouros em Pergaminho – A coleção de manuscritos iluminados ocidentais de Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian» (Treasures in Parchment – The Western Illuminated Manuscript Collection of Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian), the result of a partnership between Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM) of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University (NOVA FCSH).
