International Seminar “Monarchies and Revolution: nineteenth century resiliences and ruptures (Portugal, Italy and Spain)”
20.10.2022 - 22.10.2022
Centro Cultural de Cascais, Fundação Dom Luís I
The international workshop “Monarchies and Revolution: nineteenth century resiliences and ruptures (Portugal, Italy and Spain)” is the result of a partnership between two Portuguese institutions (IEM – NOVA FCSH) and ICS – UL), one Spanish (Universidad Complutense) and one Italian (Università di Torino). The theme of the workshop follows on from a first scientific meeting, organised by the same institutions, which took place in Turin in 2019. Now, however, the attention of the workshop focuses on the question of seeking to understand how the Portuguese, Spanish and Italian monarchical regimes, confronted with the revolutionary waves of the nineteenth century, were anchored on the one hand in traditions that were said to go back to the Middle Ages, and on the other hand proved capable of articulating such continuities with the political, social, and cultural innovations brought by the revolution.
