A iniciativa “Vínculo do Mês” apresenta neste mês de julho o morgadio do Hespanhol, instituído em Torres Vedras por João Lopes Perestrelo no derradeiro dia de Junho de 1587. Os Perestrelos, oriundos de Piacenza, em Itália, haviam chegado ao nosso país cerca de 1384-85 e desde então tinham propriedades na região de Torres Vedras. Filippo Pallastrelli, o tronco da família, terá sido chamado “o espanhol” pelo povo, dando assim origem ao nome da quinta. Foi pai de Bartolomeu Perestrelo, capitão donatário da ilha de Porto Santo, e de Richarte/Rafael Perestrelo, prior de Santa Marinha de Lisboa, que em 1423 legitimou dois filhos, João e Sebastião. Os nobiliários indicam ser este João o João Lopes Perestrelo (I) que comandou uma nau na segunda armada de Vasco da Gama, em 1502, o que cremos inverosímil pois teria mais de 80 anos. O seu neto, João Lopes Perestrelo (II), viria a morrer “em Espanhol” a 5 de Maio de 1606, tendo determinado, no seu testamento de 1587, a vinculação da quinta do Hespanhol e de outras propriedades em Cintra e Lisboa. Em 1810, o morgadio rendia 3.000$000, sendo uma das maiores propriedades da comarca de Torres Vedras. Teve sucessão regular, sem disputas, até à extinção dos vínculos e a quinta pertence ainda à família Perestrelo.

The “Entail of the Month” initiative presents this July the Morgadio do Hespanhol, established in Torres Vedras by João Lopes Perestrelo on the last day of June 1587.
