Este Curso Internacional tem como objetivo principal a abordagem ao uso das novas tecnologias na investigação em História e História da Arte medieval. Neste contexto, durante o primeiro dia do curso, será apresentada uma parte teórica introdutória sobre os Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG). Esta introdução será seguida pela exposição de várias aplicações reais desta metodologia à investigação em história urbana, fontes escritas medievais e intercâmbios artísticos. Os professores do curso são especialistas de centros de investigação franceses, espanhóis e portugueses, que têm aplicado este método à sua própria investigação de maneiras diferentes.

Durante o segundo dia, terá lugar uma sessão prática, na qual os participantes poderão aplicar as ferramentas SIG aos seus próprios projetos de investigação, onde será dada a possibilidade de criarem uma base de dados com material cartográfico. Para este efeito, todos os participantes devem trazer o seu computador pessoal para esta sessão. Os alunos que não tenham previamente instalado o programa QGIS [software livre], podem contar com o apoio dos professores para instalar a aplicação, todavia, é recomendável que os alunos descarreguem esta aplicação antecipadamente (disponível neste link: https://www.qgis.org/es/site/forusers/download.html).

The aim of this International Course is to make an approach to the use of new technologies in the research in medieval History and Art History. In this frame, during the first day there will be an introductive theoretical part to become familiar with the Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It will be followed by the exposition of several real applications of this methodology to the research in urban history, medieval written sources and artistic exchanges. The teachers of the course are experts from French, Spanish and Portuguese research centres, who have applied to their own research this method in different ways.

During the second day, a practical session will be developed. In this session, all participants will be proposed to apply the GIS tools to their own research projects. They will explore the possibilities of the GIS to create a basic database and some cartographical material. To achieve these results, all participants must attend with their own laptop and they are invited to install in advance the QGIS program following this link: https://www.qgis.org/es/site/forusers/download.html
