Leccionado pelas Professoras Doutoras Maria de Lurdes Rosa e Catarina Tibúrcio, o curso da escola de verão da NOVA - FCSH, "Introdução à Codicologia" (25h), decorrerá entre os dias 4 de julho e 5 de setembro, nos seguintes horários:

• dias 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 e 27 de Julho
• 22, 24, 29 e 31 de agosto das 9h00 às 11h00
• 5 de setembro, das 10h00 às 11h00

Objetivos do curso:

• Conhecer a evolução histórica do conceito de codicologia e da codicologia enquanto disciplina científica;
• Identificar os constituintes de um códice medieval (nomenclatura);
• Compreender a diferença entre couro e pergaminho e conhecer os respetivos processos de transformação, desde a origem ao produto final;
• Reconhecer os tipos de encadernação medieval;
• Reconhecer os tipos de construção de cadernos e de dobragem da pele que podem dar origem aos cadernos;
• Conhecer outras formas de construção de cadernos;
• Identificar os cálculos aritméticos que estão na base da planificação da página;
• Conhecer o processo de picotamento e materiais utilizados;
• Compreender em que medida o picotamento nos podem dar informações sobre os modos de fazer um códice medieval;
• Conhecer os diferentes materiais usados na justificação e no regramento;
• Perceber em que medida a justificação e o regramento nos podem dar informações sobre os modos de fazer um códice medieval;
• Reconhecer os modelos básicos de assinatura e perceber como serviam a organização dos cadernos;
• Identificar as tipologias de reclamos e perceber como serviam a organização dos cadernos;
• Conhecer as espécies decorativas típicas do século XV e suas funções dentro do códice.

Course objectives:

• Know the historical evolution of the concept of codicology and codicology as a scientific discipline;

• Understand the difference between leather and parchment and know the respective transformation processes, from the origin to the final product;
• Recognize the types of medieval binding;
• Recognize the types of notebook construction and skin folding that can give rise to notebooks;
• Knowing other ways of building notebooks;
• Identify the arithmetic calculations that are at the base of the page layout;
• Know the chipping process and materials used;
• Understand to what extent perforation can give us information about ways to make a medieval codex;
• Know the different materials used in justification and regulation;
• Understand the extent to which justification and rules can give us information about the ways of making a medieval codex;
• Recognize the basic signature models and understand how the notebooks were organized;
• Identify the types of complaints and understand how the organization of notebooks served;
• Know the typical decorative species of the 15th century and their functions within the codex.
