Leccionado pelos Professores Doutores Paulo Lopes, Tiago Viúla de Faria e pela investigadora Diana Martins, o curso da escola de verão da NOVA - FCSH, "A Diplomacia na Idade Média" (25h), decorrerá entre os dias 28 de agosto e 8 de setembro, nos seguintes horários:

Objetivos do curso:

Interiorizar a especificidade da prática diplomática e das relações externas no período medievo. Neste sentido, o aluno deve estar apto a relacionar as diversas modalidades e vertentes que compõem a diplomacia durante a Idade Média, em particular no que respeita ao reino de Portugal. As funções, competências e sociologia dos agentes diplomáticos, bem como a normativa que fundamenta a sua operacionalidade e as tipologias das missões que integram ou protagonizam (nas quais a cultura material assume rara importância), devem igualmente integrar o quadro de saberes do discente. Por último, deve apreender a partir do estudo de fontes históricas, literárias e iconográficas como as práticas diplomáticas foram então representadas.

Lectured by Professors Paulo Lopes, Tiago Viúla de Faria, and researcher Diana Martins, the NOVA - FCSH summer school course, "Diplomacy in the Middle Ages" (25h), will take place between August 28th and September 8th, at the following times:

• weekdays, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm

Course objectives:

Internalize the specificity of diplomatic practice and foreign relations in the medieval period. In this sense, the student must be able to relate the various modalities and aspects that makeup diplomacy during the Middle Ages, in particular with regard to the kingdom of Portugal. The functions, skills, and sociology of diplomatic agents, as well as the regulations that underlie their operation and the types of missions they are part of or lead (in which material culture assumes rare importance), must also form part of the student's framework of knowledge. Finally, it must learn from the study of historical, literary, and iconographic sources how diplomatic practices were represented at the time.
