O Workshop Internacional Heraldry in Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts insere-se no projeto de investigação ManJusEurIt – European Traveling Legal Manuscripts conduzido e coordenado pela investigadora Dra. Maria Alessandra Bilotta, também associado às atividades da equipa de investigação do IUS ILLUMINATUM.

Este Workshop é organizado pelo Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM-FCSH/NOVA) em articulação com a equipa de investigação do IUS ILLUMINATUM e em parceria com o Instituto Português de Heráldica (IPH) e os projetos de investigação ROADMAP – Research on Antonio De Holanda Illuminated Artistic Production (FCT – PTDC/ART-HIS/0985/2021) e Books, Rituals and Space in a Cistercian Nunnery. Living, praying and reading in Lorvão, 13^th – 16^th centuries (FCT – PTDC/ART-HIS/0739/2020).

Esta iniciativa, coordenada pelos investigadores Maria Alessandra Bilotta e Miguel Metelo de Seixas, pretende mostrar a utilidade da análise científica da presença de emblemas heráldicos em manuscritos medievais iluminados (séculos XIII-XV).

Esta iniciativa visa ainda facilitar sinergias entre diferentes projetos de investigação e áreas do conhecimento e divulgar os resultados da investigação a um público mais alargado, mantendo sempre o rigor científico, de forma a promover o conhecimento do património heráldico em manuscritos e em documentos medievais, atenção para a importância da conservação desse patrimônio.

The International Workshop Heraldry in Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts is part of the research project ManJusEurIt – European Traveling Legal Manuscripts conducted by Maria Alessandra Bilotta, also linked to activities of the IUS ILLUMINATUM research team scientifically coordinated by the same researcher.

The International Workshop is organized by the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM-FCSH/NOVA) together with the IUS ILLUMINATUM research team and in partnership with the Portuguese Heraldry Institute (IPH) and the research projects ROADMAP – Research on Antonio De Holanda Illuminated Artistic Production (FCT – PTDC/ART-HIS/0985/2021) and Books, Rituals and Space in a Cistercian Nunnery. Living, praying and reading in Lorvão, 13^th – 16^th centuries (FCT – PTDC/ART-HIS/0739/2020). This initiative, coordinated by researchers Maria Alessandra Bilotta and Miguel Metelo de Seixas, aims to show the usefulness of the scientific analysis of the presence of heraldic emblems in illuminated medieval manuscripts (13^th-15^th centuries).

This initiative also aims to facilitate synergies between different research projects and areas of knowledge and to disseminate the results of research to a wider audience, always maintaining scientific rigor, in order to promote the awareness of the heraldic heritage in manuscripts and in medieval documents, drawing attention to the importance of conserving that heritage.
